Dollywood is the theme park created by Dolly Parton in Pigeon Forge, TN, her hometown. The park has both open-air and enclosed theaters, and the performers are professional. Theaters range from Southern Gospel to Bluegrass to 50's rock, to name just a few. There is also a large building that houses the craft area, comprised of mountain artists with incredible skill in woodworking, blacksmithing (it's a working shop with constant craft demonstration), painting, etc. Dolly's theme of butterflies is worked in throughout the park, including a magnificent display of butterfly-shaped flowers at the entrance. We didn't have time to go to Dolly's Splash Country (the water park next door) so there's no photos of it. One thing we noticed was we never heard a single curse word while at Dollywood and didn't see anyone of any age with a boombox. "Family" oriented is the only way to describe the park and atmosphere. Dolly's brother Bobby build an EXACT replica of Dolly's childhood home in the park and it is a mind-blower. A small two room cabin that housed Dolly, her ten brothers and sisters and her parents. Most of the furnishings, inclduing bottles of all sorts, were donated by Dolly's mother, Avie Lee, and are from the original cabin (which still stands). The other furnishings are exact replicas. The people in the photo were exiting the cabin. The third photo is a billboard for one of the Bluegrass shows. Boy, can these people pick and sing! ![]() ![]() ![]() |
